In the second half, Sporting would continue their swift offensive attack, and would score four more goals against the Stars. Rodriguez would find the score line again, giving him a hat trick on the night. Along with Rodriguez, Carlos Betancourt, Mark Conrad and Mike Sitzman, all found the back of the net on Sporting goals.

“Our team did a great job staying composed and keeping control during the game. We slowed ourselves down when things were getting hectic. We moved the ball well and got some great shots off with some awesome finishes,” Said Rodriguez.

Led by veteran goalkeeper Jeff Renslo, Sporting’s defense staved a late Star comeback that fell just short. With 47 seconds left, Everett got their 6th foul and was forced to play 4 on 6.

In the last 47 seconds, Renslo made several huge saves from point blank and the special teams was able to kill the penalty. The special teams would play a huge part of the match killing off 4 of 5 Star Power plays.

“It was a amazing first win. It shows where we need to improve. But, to beat the defending champion always feels good. Our guys have worked hard and it shows,” said Sporting Head Coach, Craig Otto.
