Sporting Everett, ended their season on a high note with a commanding 11-2 win over the Vancouver Victory. The win also boosted Everett into the Western Indoor Soccer League (WISL) playoffs as the third seed.
In the match, Matthew Martens ripped home 3 goals, giving him a “Hat Trick.” Joining, Martens on the scoreline were Mark Conrad, Corey Hendrickson, Lucas Dourado, James Postma, and Andrew Escalante.
In the defensive zone, veteran goalkeeper, Jeff Renslo was “red hot” as he shut out the Victory for 44 minutes and made 14 saves on the night. With his performance, Renslo earned the WISL’s defensive player of the week.
“My performance stemmed from how poor I played the week before against Olympic Force. I tend to dwell on performances like that and try to turn that negative energy to a positive performance going forward,” said Renslo. “The team defense really made me look good. They presented plenty of opportunities as well. It was a good team win.”
The win combined with the Snohomish Skyhawks loss, cemented Everett’s playoff position, and the club will now travel to Bremerton to take on the Olympic Force, in the WISL semi-finals. Both clubs met in last year’s Premier Arena Soccer League Championship game. The two clubs are also the first to earn two consecutive playoff berths in two different leagues.
The match is scheduled for February 20th, at the Olympic Sports Center with a 7:30pm kickoff.
